On September 11, the official opening ceremony of the "Tavush Tourism Development Agency" took place in Ijevan, Tavush.
The event was attended by the representatives of the GIZ, headed by Sebastian Falck, EU4Business “Innovative Tourism and Technology Development for Armenia’’ project’s Tourism Component Leader and Deputy Team Leader, community-regional authorities, tourism sector representatives and businesses.
During the event, the history of the agency, a number of projects implemented by the agency, as well as long-term programmes and vision aimed at the expanding the tourism potential of Tavush region were presented.
"Tavush Tourism Development Agency" NGO, as the first such organization working on a community-based model of tourism destination management in Armenia, aims to promote the sustainable development of tourism in Tavush region, within the framework of which it tries to create grounds for spatial institutionalization of tourism.
The agency has been operating since 2013 but hasn’t had an office which would make the work of the NGO more efficient. In 2021, with the support of the EU4Business “Innovative Tourism and Technology Development for Armenia’’ project, the organization managed to rent a working space and acquire necessary equipment for the office’s professional activities.
